Lex Autolease’s recent survey on which type of vehicle will be most popular in 10 years time has revealed a growing acceptance by company car drivers that they will be driving low carbon cars within the decade.

Almost two-thirds of drivers are confident that hybrid vehicles will rise to the top of the volume sales chart in the fleet sector, while a further 8% see a fully electric vehicle future. Is this really the future for company fleets?

Ten years is only three or four replacement cycles away, so now is the time for fleet managers to begin exploring new technologies with a greater degree of seriousness. Employees are readied for change and the business benefits are becoming more and more apparent

With 47% of all drivers in the survey saying they would like to test a hybrid or fully electric vehicle, is there an opportunity for this? Whilst you may be familiar with vehicles such as the Toyota Prius, more advanced models are making there way to market such as Nissans Leaf, a fully electric vehicle expected to arrive with customers in 2011.
